Doughty, A. G., "Preface", Four Centuries of Medical History in Canada and a Sketch of the Medical History of Newfoundland, by John J. Heagerty, Toronto: The Macmillan Company of Canada Limited, at St. Martin's House, 1928, pp. vii-x.
In the "Preface", A.G. Doughty provided an overview of some of the highlights of this 2 volume work within the context of its contribution to the history of Canada. Doughty noted that this medical history was not just written for the physician but for the general reader, and that Dr. Heagerty had produced a most interesting and reliable work. Doughty commended Dr. Heagerty for his research based on original documents and rare printed material in the Public Archives. The published work is "an example to all students who would aspire to write anything worthy of public attention on any subject relating to the History of Canada." (p. x)
