Doughty, Arthur G., 'Samuel de Champlain", The Catholic Encyclopedia, An International Work of Reference on the Constitution, Doctrine, Discipline, and History of the Catholic Church, New York: Robert Appleton Company, 1908, Vol. 3, pp. 567-568.

The first volume of The Catholic Encyclopedia was published in 1907 with subsequent volumes published from 1908 to 1912. A.G. Doughty's article, "Samuel de Champlain" appeared in volume 3 which was published by the Robert Appleton Company (New York) in 1908. In 1912, the publishing company's name was changed to The Encyclopedia Press, Inc. (New York). Under this new name a Special edition under the auspices of the Knights of Columbus was published from 1912 to 1914; it consisted of the original encyclopedic set plus an Index (volume 16). A.G. Doughty's article, "Samuel de Champlain" was reprinted with no changes from the original. In 1917, a new volume entitled, The Catholic Encyclopedia and its Makers, was published with biographies for all of the encyclopedia's contributors which included a biography on Arthur G. Doughty. From 1922 to 1958, the encyclopedia continued to issue a few supplementary volumes for some additional articles, however, AGD did not contribute to these later supplements.
